Artist Bio — Sabrina Marion

Sabrina Marion is a California-based artist whose abstract cloud paintings explore the sky as a metaphor for life, perception, and the spaces of the imagination. Working from her backyard studio in Forestville, California, Marion creates expansive atmospheric paintings that invite viewers to pause, look upward, and momentarily release the weight of the everyday.

Born and raised in California, Marion has long been drawn to the sky as a place of possibility. As a child, she spent hours alone observing its vastness, finding comfort and wonder in something that was constantly changing yet somehow timeless. Today, that same impulse informs her paintings, where clouds become less about depicting a particular place and more about creating an emotional experience.

For Marion, the sky becomes a metaphor for life: constantly shifting, impossible to hold still, and beautiful precisely because it is temporary. Clouds have no fixed identity or expression, yet they can evoke memory, longing, peace, anticipation, or awe. They are beauty without a face—forms that allow the viewer to bring their own experience to the work.

Her paintings exist between representation and abstraction. Familiar elements of the natural world are gradually loosened from their literal meanings through color, atmosphere, pattern, scale, and composition. What begins as a cloudscape becomes an invitation to look beyond what is immediately recognizable and to consider how much of what we see is shaped by our own perception.

After losing her California home in a devastating neighborhood fire in 2017, Marion began turning more intentionally toward art as a form of escape and restoration. What began in a small garage studio eventually became a sustained painting practice. Today, she lives in Forestville, California, in a wooded neighborhood that has become a place of healing and renewal, and works from the backyard studio where she continues to explore the relationship between nature, imagination, and emotional space.

Marion’s paintings are ultimately less about clouds than they are about what we find in them. They offer a place to get lost—to step outside the noise of everyday life, surrender certainty for a moment, and experience the quiet expansiveness of simply looking.
